Edward M. Hallowell is a child and adult psychiatrist who specialises in ADD/ADHD and who also has ADD. He is the co-author of the books Driven to Distraction (1994) and Delivered From Distraction (2005).

Hallowell is an alumnus of both Harvard and Phillips Exeter Academy, and received his medical degree from Tulane University Medical School. Hallowell has authored many books on various psychological topics, including problems with attention, focus, stress and worry. His national best sellers Driven to Distraction (Pantheon, 1994) and Answers to Distraction (Pantheon, 1995) discuss attention deficit disorder in children and in adults. When You Worry about the Child You Love, (Simon & Schuster, 1996) describes the various emotional and learning problems children may have and offers practical tips on how best to deal with them. With Michael Thompson, he co-authored a book of essays on children, families and schools, entitled finding the Heart of the Child (National Association of Independent Schools, 1997). He also created The Hallowell Center for Cognitive and Emotional Health in Sudbury, MA.
Hallowell continues to work in his private practice while he also consults to businesses and other organizations, writes books, and gives about 100 lectures per year. Hallowell is considered to be an expert on the topic of ADD.[1] Hallowell is a highly recognized speaker and has presented on thousands of topics such as ADD, strategies on handling your fast-paced life, the Childhood Roots of Adult Happiness and other pertinent family and health issues.
Hallowell lives in the Boston area with his wife, Sue, a social worker, and their three children, Lucy, Jack and Tucker.
